The Board consists of 12-14 directors who are representative of the general membership with at least three members from the public sector and three from the private sector.  Directors serve three-year terms, which are renewable without term limits. 

 

Seats are open to individuals who work in the area of land use planning, development and regulation.  Eligible individuals include but are not limited to property owners, consultants, developers, engineers, architects, attorneys and government employees.  Applications are kept in a pool for future consideration.  Click here to view or complete the application form.

 


KATE AANENSON, President

Kate has 30 years of local government experience in all facets of planning including: housing, industrial and commercial development, and redevelopment as well as long range and strategic planning. Kate spent the first 7 years of her planning career in Sandy, Utah.  She is currently the Community Development Director in the City of Chanhassen.

 

Kate is a member of the American Planning Association, the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association, AICP. She was Chair of the Minnetonka Economic Development Advisory Commission for seven years. She has been a SLUC member since 1997 and on the board since 2004.

 

  JULIE WISCHNACK, Vice President

Ms. Wischnack has been involved in local government for over 20 years. As a city planner and community development professional she has experience with all types of development in various jurisdictions. She is currently the community development director for the city of Minnetonka. Prior to joining the city of Minnetonka in 2006, Julie served as planning director for the city of Hutchinson and city planner for the city of Minnetrista. Ms. Wischnack understands the challenges of development but recognizes the importance of bringing the public and private sectors together to resolve issues, with a particular talent in consensus building. She has been on the board of the Sensible Land Use Coalition since 2008.




TERRY SCHNEIDER, Treasurer

Terry Schneider has been the owner of a real estate development consulting firm since 1981.  His firm specializes in single and multi-family residential, offices, schools and hotels.  He served on the Minnetonka city council from 1992-2008 and has been the mayor since 2009.  He is a long-time member of SLUC and has been on the board since 1995.  Terry has co-chaired numerous programs and brings to the table a unique perspective as development consultant and elected official.  He understands the value that SLUC can bring to the region and the importance of maintaining a balanced relationship.

 


BRENT HISLOP
Brent is the managing partner for Synergy Land Company.  He has been actively involved in the development of over 100 high-quality land projects including 4,000 lots on over 2,000 acres within the Twin Cities metro.

As the managing partner of Synergy Land Company, he focuses on 3 primary services:  Land Development, Land Sales, and Land Consulting.  Synergy helps “pull it all together” — developing land value through market-based information, strategy development, and connected relationships.  These activities help Synergy merge people, resources, & common goals to create successful, high-quality projects.  Brent holds a broker’s license and an MBA in real estate and venture development.  He joined the SLUC board in 2014.


ROGER KNUTSON

Roger has served as legal counsel for cities and townships for nearly four decades.  He represents these entities on land use, development and redevelopment matters.  As a SLUC board member, he offers the perspective of a city attorney who represents both large and small cities.  He has been a board member since 1995, has served as vice-president and chaired numerous programs.




  KENDRA LINDAHL, Immediate Past President 

Kendra has more than 20 years of planning and development experience.   At Landform, her work focuses on serving the needs of public sector clients, but she also provides project management and entitlement leadership for a wide variety of residential, office and retail commercial projects.  This client mix allows her to be creative and successful in managing the increasingly complex development process. Prior to joining Landform in 2001, she worked as a staff planner for the cities of Plymouth and Elk River. 

 

She is a member of the American Planning Association, the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association, AICP and the Economic Development Association of Minnesota (EDAM).

  NENE MATEY-KEKE

Nene is the broker/owner of RNR Realty International. He has more than 16 years of experience in real estate and development, construction, and financial investment. He has held positions as a real estate agent, project manager for a midsize real estate developer, lead abatement general contractor, and a financial planner/stock broker for two of the largest financial institutions in the industry.

 

Nene currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota REALTORS®, and he was recently appointed as the state director to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). He holds numerous committee memberships at his local and state real estate associations, including current Vice Chair of the Global Business Council for the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS® (MAAR) and past Chair of the Diversity Committee for Minnesota. On the national level, he participates on the Global Business and Alliances Committee. In 2013, Nene was appointed by NAR to be a Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) and serve as the official representative of the real estate industry to Congressman Ellison of the 5th District of Minnesota. He was also appointed to be on the Minnesota REALTOR® Political Action Committee (MN-RPAC) Board of Trustees.  He became a board member in 2016.



PAUL ROBINSON
Paul has a Master’s Degree in public administrator and spent 10 years working in the public sector, most recently as the City Administrator of the City of Medina.  Since working in the public sector Paul has spent the past 12 years with Bancor Group as their Development Manager/VP.  In that role Paul has been responsible for all aspects of developing land for primarily single family residential projects ranging in size from 20 to over 1,000 units. This includes land acquisition, entitlement, planning, budgeting, creating and maintaining proformas, construction management, managing homeowner's associations, marketing and sales. 

Paul believes that SLUC is one of the most important groups for linking together the private and public sectors in the Twin Cities and as a board member he hopes to continue SLUC’s role in that work.  Paul joined the board in 2014.

  TRACEY RUST

Tracy is a civil engineer with 18 years of experience in land development.  Her first seven years were as a consultant designing projects with the last 11 years working directly for developers managing projects from acquisition through entitlements, permitting and continuing to assist with issues and/or changes during construction.  Her experience has been from the East to the West coast working with local consultants and municipalities.  She has been with CalAtlantic (formerly Ryland) since 2013 and a member of the board since 2015.



  STEPHANIE GRIFFIN

As a member of The Excelsior Group’s Land Development team, Stephanie assists throughout the development life cycle of projects. She is involved in acquisition analysis, due diligence, entitlements, project management, and disposition. Stephanie has five years of experience working in residential and commercial land development and brokerage in the Twin Cities, as well as being a 4th generation in the industry.  Stephanie is a licensed Minnesota Real Estate Broker.  She holds a BSBA and MBA in Real Estate and Construction Management from The University of Denver, Daniels College of Business. Stephanie joined the Board in 2016.


BARBARA THOMSON

Barbara has 40 years experience with the cities of Minneapolis and Plymouth, U of M Planning, Northwest Area Consultants, Midwest Planning, National Biocentric and the Metropolitan Council.  She brings to the board a variety of perspectives, good overall knowledge of the region, and substantial experience with SLUC program development and execution.  She has been a member since 1989, and a board member since 1998. Barbara served as president from 2007-2011.  She developed the Great Places Initiative concept and currently serves as the committee chair.





 

JASON WEDEL
Jason started his career as a civil engineer.   He moved on to be city engineer and public works director in both the cities of Lakeville and Savage.  More recently, he worked for Pulte Homes as a land developer.   He currently works at WSB as a consultant engineer where his practice focuses on private commercial development as well as city street and utility projects. Jason joined the board in 2015.



  CINDY ZERGER
Cindy is currently Co-leader, Urban Design Group | Toole Design Group. TDG is recognized as a national leader in multimodal transportation planning and design. She leads the firm's Urban Design Group, a group of landscape architects, engineers, and planners who approach urban design primarily through a transportation lens. She is committed to a place-based approach to the planning and design of our transportation systems. Cindy understands that great street networks and designs are foundational for healthy, vibrant communities. Since joining TDG she has worked across disciplines to foster a greater understanding of the importance of a place-based approach to street design. From 2009-2014 Cindy served as a research fellow with the University of Minnesota's Center for Changing Landscapes and Humphrey School of Public Affairs. During her time with the University she worked on a variety of projects to encourage more walkable and livable communities throughout Minnesota. She, along with her co-investigator, Carissa Schively Slotterback, received the 2014 Research Partnership Special Recognition for her research on Complete Streets funded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Local Road Research Board. She joined the board in 2015.



PAT ARNST, Executive Director
Pat has been an organization consultant to small business and non-profits since 1991 providing resources and expertise to help association leadership and entrepreneurs fulfill their missions.  Among other organizations for land use professionals, she has worked with the Sensible Land Use Coalition since 1995 working on member services, data management, marketing, web site development and content management, social media and board development.
